European colonies purchased indigenous people as slaves as part of the international indigenous American slave trade, which lasted from the late 15th century into the 19th century. Prior to mass settlement by their own people in the New World colonies such as English Carolina, Spanish Florida and French Louisiana in what is now the Southern United States,mostly indigenous worked on Plantations. A few tribes, induced by the European or American market, become slavers, capturing large numbers of other indigenous tribes for sale to planters, traders, or other Indians. 12 million American Negro Indians where shipped from the mid 1500s to the mid 1600s from Uruguay to Spain. Many more expeditions of this sort continued for centuries all around the world. South American places such as Brazil, played key rolls in these Expeditions.
